WSD JOINS KICKSTART SCHEME

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

WSD is participating in the government’s Kickstart Scheme and is committed to providing excellent opportunities to local 16 to 24-year-olds currently claiming Universal Credit, so as to afford them a very real opportunity to get into the workplace.

WHAT IS THE KICKSTART SCHEME?

The Kickstart Scheme is designed to support young people in gaining knowledge and experience in a professional working environment. It provides organisations of all sizes, across a variety of sectors, with the opportunity to access a large pool of young people with potential. These young people may have little to no experience in working, or applying for work and the scheme encourages potential employers to provide constructive feedback to successful and unsuccessful applicants to improve their CV writing and interview skills. Successful candidates will comments a six month work placement, at the end of which they may well find themselves with an offer of full time work.

WHAT ARE WSD OFFERING?

Trainee Engineer Kickstart placements have been made available across the company within our Mechanical, Electrical, Sustainability and Design Engineering Teams. Successful candidates complete two rounds of interviews during which they must display a keen interest in our field and a desire to begin or develop their career in Building Services Design. When they have completed their placement, these young people will have gained the skills to help them move into future employment, either with us or with another employer perhaps in a more suitable industry or role. HOW IS IT GOING?

The back end of 2021 saw us welcome 4 Kickstart applicants to Team WSD, with a further 6 placements being filled in the New Year. We have found the process to be a very positive experience with fantastic support from the local Job Centre, and the majority of young people have expressed a strong drive to learn and develop their careers.
